Frequently asked questions

How do I share my location with someone?
Open the Contacts screen (the people icon at the top of the map) and turn on the Share toggle next to their name. Sharing is one-directional and per-contact — turning it on for one friend doesn't share your location with anyone else.
How do I stop sharing with someone?
Go back to the Contacts screen and turn their Share toggle off. This takes effect immediately.
What's Ghost Mode?
Ghost Mode (in Settings) is a single switch that hides your location from everyone at once — regardless of any individual sharing toggles or an active Go Live broadcast — for whenever you want to be off the grid without changing your other sharing settings.
What's "Go Live"?
Go Live broadcasts your location to a chosen group of contacts for a set duration (1 hour, 4 hours, until midnight, or indefinitely), without turning on always-on sharing with them. Useful for one-off events like a night out or a trip. Tap "End Live" any time to stop early.
Can people I haven't added see my location?
No. LocShare only works between people who already have each other saved as phone contacts, and even then nothing is visible until you explicitly turn on sharing or start a Go Live broadcast with them. There are no public profiles and no way to be discovered by strangers.
What are Been Here, Territory, and Scavenger?
Optional features for friend groups who want more: Been Here shows which of your friends have visited the same spots, Territory is a leaderboard for your most-visited places, and Scavenger gives you challenges based on your own activity. Each one has its own separate, off-by-default opt-in in Settings — turning on one doesn't turn on the others, and nothing is shared with friends until you opt in.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings and tap "Delete account" at the bottom. This permanently deletes your profile, location history, and sharing permissions. This action can't be undone.
Why does LocShare need my contacts?
To figure out which of your phone contacts also use LocShare, so you can choose who to share with. Your contact list is never uploaded — only a one-way hashed version of each phone number is used for matching. See the Privacy Policy for details.
I'm not receiving notifications for new messages.
Check that notifications are allowed for LocShare in your device's system Settings. If they're enabled and you're still not receiving them, email us at the address above with your device type and OS version.
